This year we are fortunate to have volunteers running to fill a full Executive Board and ensure that our PTA funds are active and accessible to our students and community for the 2020/2021 school year.  The PTA, however, is always interested in engaging with more parents.  If you are interested in a potential role next year please contact Donna Hockey via email at dhockey [at] gmail.com, the head of the Nominating Committee, no later than March 9th, 2020.  This gives our Nominating Committee enough time to review potential candidates and present their slate of nominees before the April 15th, 2020 Executive Board election meeting!

No experience is required. Docents also receive invitations to special enrichment events including hikes, topical presentations, and hands-on activities as well as two appreciation brunches. This is a great opportunity to build community and help create the next generation of environmental stewards. For more information see the training schedule below or please contact Kim Reynolds at kimr [at] living-classroom.org or visit our website living-classroom.org

Living Classroom provides engaging hands-on, outdoor, nature-based lessons for Capri students. The experiential lessons build from one year to the next on important core topics like photosynthesis, life cycles, ecology, and the scientific method. The lessons reinforce how what they are learning and doing is relevant to their lives.  Students work in small group rotations, led by trained instructors and parent volunteers, to assure every student is an active participant in learning and doing.

We would love to discover all the places in the world that Capri is connected to.  Meet Mrs. Wellendorf after school on Wednesday with up to 3 countries that your family originates from and she will place a pin on the map for you.  The Map of the world is located on the Kinderpod wall between E1 and E2.  We had a great turnout this past Wednesday, let's keep it going and fill our map with pins.

Capri celebrated many students on Wednesday morning.  Awards were given for a variety of different reasons including helping new students assimilate, being willing to try new and difficult tasks, being a leader in the classroom and improving in specific areas.  Two special  Profile of a Graduate awards were also given out for exemplifying two competencies; empathy and critical thinking.  Congratulations to all the honorees!

Mrs. McGriff challenged her class to make chocolate chip cookies.  She gave them all the tools, ingredients and recipe and then one important instruction, "cut the recipe in half".  The students used their math skills in order to put in the correct amount of ingredients.  There was a lot of success and some minor issues; too salty, too sweet, too puffy (baking soda!).

Later in the year, they will get to make cookies again, with a new challenge....cut the recipe in 1/3!
