It is with great pride that we nominate Jennifer Brackett as our “Teacher of the Year.” Ms. Brackett’s classroom is built upon a strong sense of community as students work cooperatively in a safe and caring environment with solid routines and high expectations for academics and citizenship. Jen has embraced the transition to Common Core State Standards. She has increased student exposure to non-fiction selections, implemented a strong writing program, and increased rigor across curricular areas. Not only is Jen an excellent educator, but her dedication and expertise stretch beyond the classroom walls as she serves in a variety of leadership capacities at both the site and district levels. As a representative on our site Leadership Team, Jen plays an important role in determining school priorities, charting our academic course, promoting positive student behavior, and strengthening communication between grade levels. Additionally, she is the 5th grade math lead representing Capri. Jen possesses a strong sense of teamwork, and her collegiality with both new and veteran teachers is excellent. She is organized, intelligent, a thoughtful decision-maker, and a true advocate for our students.

Capri is proud to name Kim Scheerer as our Volunteer of the Year. Her outstanding leadership and tireless efforts have helped shape our wonderful school community. Kim began her early years at Capri as a Room Parent and active member of various committees, and for the past two years she has served as President of the PTA. In addition to her Board position, Kim has chaired the Fall Festival, the Walk-a-Thon, the Spring Fling, Reading Under the Moon and Stars, Movie Nights, and numerous fundraisers including See’s Candy and Mixed Bags. These efforts have helped provide valuable field trips and assemblies, as well as library resources and staffing. Kim is the mastermind of organization and logistics, recruiting volunteers, coordinating schedules and timelines for fundraisers, and promoting school improvement projects. Earlier this year, PTA was approached with an idea for a Little Free Library on site. Within a few months, Kim and her husband designed and built the Little Free Library. Our thanks to Kim for her years of service. Congratulations!
