Fall was in the air at Capri on Saturday October 19th.  Families enjoyed games, activities, food, and a pumpkin decorating contest.  There was also amazing baskets and silent auction items.  Congratulations to all the lucky bidders who won their items.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated items, solicited donations, organized and wrapped baskets, dropped off candy, or helped in any way to make this event successful!

This month's Project Cornerstone book addresses relational bullying.  Relational bullying refers to "acts of emotional bullying among a tightly knit network of peers" Instead of using their fists to hit or feet to kick, relational bullying includes under the radar actions like spreading rumors, intimidating and humiliating, excluding and ignoring, as well as manipulating a victim.

Lessons learned from this book include:

  • Identifying caring adults and family members who provide support.
  • Empower students to discuss problems with supportive family members and caring adults.
  • Use positive self-talk to boost personal power in interpersonal relationships.
  • Understand and identify friendship boosters and busters.

Be sure and ask your student if they have had their Project Cornerstone lesson yet and what they learned.

Living Classroom lessons kicked off this month and students took to the garden! Kindergarteners explore the garden and learn how to become stewards of their environment, first grade students learn about the parts of a plant and plant seedlings, second graders will plant winter wheat to be harvested in the spring. According to Cornell University Research, “A primarily qualitative study presented in Australia showed that “school-based community gardens represent a significant opportunity to embed nutrition, physical activity and environmental sustainability into mainstream curricula.” Living Classroom provides fundamental opportunities for your child to learn standards-based curriculum while also developing a love of their environment! Learn more about our programs by visiting our website at living-classroom.org.
