Go where no one has ever gone before! Learn the science of art conservation. What lies behind the surface of a 400-year-old sculpture? Is what you see on a painting real, or did the artist mean to draw something totally different? And, what about Infrared Reflectography—what does that exactly do? Detroit Public Television teamed up with the Detroit Institute of Arts for a Virtual Field Trip to take students and teachers behind the scenes into the restricted area at the DIA to help them explore new ideas and dig deep under the surface of art and science. It’s chemistry, physics, biology, and geology sprinkled with “Ferocious curiosity.”

We are halfway through our fourth week of distance learning. Our office staff have passed out Chromebooks and helped students get connected. Our teachers have established routines and schedules for students to engage in learning while at home. It has been a journey filled with trial and error but our teachers and families have exemplified our Profile of a Graduate competencies. We have seen acts of empathy for each other and the community. We have seen innovation and collaboration in our rollout of distance learning. We have seen students becoming self-directed from TK through 5th with the help and support of parents and families at home. It is so exciting to see the learning happening during our school closure thanks to each and every member of the Capri community.

As the last days of school approach, it becomes necessary to plan for class placements for the next school year. To help us provide the best educational program for your child(ren) please let us know if you are and are not planning to return to Capri next year.
5th grade parents, please indicate if your student is planning to transition to a CUSD middle school or a middle school outside of CUSD.

Our teachers and staff engage in daily and weekly professional development to support distance learning. Our teachers are learning from webinars, podcasts, and self-directed professional development on Google Sites, Pear Deck, SeeSaw, and much more! We have also continued and deepened our professional development on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with resources from our district office, CAST, and more. UDL is a powerful framework to support the learning of all students.
