Capri Elementary School

Classified Employee of the Year: Dana McKinnon

Capri is honored to nominate Dana McKinnon, school librarian and Educational Associate, as our Classified Employee of the Year. Dana has served as our school librarian for the past nine years. During this time, she has expanded our library inventory to include book titles that meet the needs of our learners, including high interest/low-level novels and non-fiction texts to support Common Core instruction. In addition to providing library and computer lab support, Dana also wears another hat---- that of an Educational Associate. During the instructional day, she supports ExCEL in three different grade levels. She leads small groups of students to support reading fluency, comprehension, and foundational skills in kindergarten, third and fourth grades. Her easy going and flexible demeanor add to her ability to work effectively with teachers. She is a quick study and is able to carry out daily lesson plans to support student achievement. Dana helps organize both the Cornerstone ABC Readers and our Los Dichos group, working with parents to inventory and order books. She also helps oversee our three annual Scholastic Book Fairs, taking an active role in the ordering, set-up, and sales. Congratulations, Dana McKinnon!
