How We Support Every Student at Campbell Union School District
In Campbell Union School District we understand that student is unique. We are also committed to educating every student to their highest potential. MTSS is allowing us to honor the uniqueness of each student while ensuring they have what they need to thrive.

At Campbell Union School District (CUSD), we know that every child is unique—with their own bright talents and individual challenges. Our goal is simple: to make sure your child receives the exact care and instruction they need to thrive.
To do this, we use a clear, 3-step support system (often called MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports) which helps every child reach their highest potential.
1. Everyday Classroom Support (Tier 1)
This is the foundation for all students. To make our everyday classrooms as strong and supportive as possible, CUSD has invested directly in key resources for your child:
- Smaller Class Sizes and High-Quality Teaching: Ensures your child gets more individual attention from their teacher.
- Dedicated Behaviorists: A behavior specialist is assigned to every school site to help create positive, well-managed classroom environments.
- The AIM Initiative in Grades 1-5 (Art, Innovation, and Music): Gives your child access to hands-on enrichment programs while freeing up dedicated planning time for teachers to analyze student progress and tailor lessons.
- On-Campus Wellness Centers: Safe spaces where students can take a breather, recharge, and learn self-regulation skills during the school day.
2. Targeted Help in Small Groups (Tier 2)
If a student hits a bump in the road—whether with a tough math concept, reading, or managing emotions—we jump in early with short-term, extra support. This might mean:
- Small-group intervention classes tailored to specific skills.
- Bringing together a Student Success Team (SST) or Coordination of Services Team (COST) to build a quick, personalized action plan.
This support is flexible—students step in when they need a boost and transition back to regular routines once they demonstrate an understanding of the skill or behavior.
3. Specialized, One-on-One Support (Tier 3)
For students who need deeper, more intensive support, we provide highly specialized services. These are custom-designed for children with significant academic, behavioral, or emotional needs after Tiers 1 and 2 have been fully explored.
We Are Partners in Your Child's Success
By keeping a close eye on student progress and adapting quickly, we ensure no child slips through the cracks. If you ever have questions about the extra support available for your child, please reach out to your teacher or school principal. Together, we make Campbell a great place to learn!
