Back to School Night for Parents

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

Please join us on Tuesday, September 26.

Parents will learn about curriculum, instruction, and our Capri school community.

Session I will be from 6:30 – 7:00 PM for grades 3, 4, and 5.

Session II will be from 7:05 – 7:35 PM for grades 1 and 2.

While we do have several kid-centered events throughout the year, including the Walk-a-Thon, Fall Festival, Spring Fling, and Science Night, Back to School Night is for adults only.  This will allow our teachers quiet uninterrupted time to present information about grade-level instruction, classroom expectations, and our academic programs.

Thank you for your support!

A Message from the Superintendent

With news about changes in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), we want to remind our families that Campbell Union School District is committed to welcoming and supporting all students and their families, regardless of their immigration status.

Last spring, our Governing Board adopted a Resolution Reaffirming Support of Immigrant Students and Families, which reaffirms that support and provides guidance about how to provide it within legal parameters. The full text of the resolution is available online at campbellusd.org/policy, or in print from the District Administration, 408-341-7254 or ask_us [at] campbellusd.org.

The community is invited to help choose a final name for a new school being created for students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through Eighth Grade.

With the Governing Board’s approval of the TK-8 implementation plan this summer, staff is continuing the work of creating a new educational option for Campbell Union School District families.  Among those tasks: what to name it.

The District is asking employees, parents, and other members of the community to take a 3-question survey to help choose the name of the school, which will open next August (2018) to grades TK-4th and will add upper grades in subsequent years. CUSD Students in grades 3-7 will also have the chance to participate at school through an internal, secure version of the survey.

A Message from Superintendent Shelly Viramontez

The recent events in Charlottesville and other divisive and hate-filled exchanges remind us of the importance of creating an inclusive and caring environment for our students, families and the surrounding community.

Building positive relationships is a key value for us in Campbell Union School District. In fact, preparing our students for successful futures requires that we teach them to be inclusive and to create positive relationships despite perceived differences.

We demonstrate that value through our commitment to inclusion, our intolerance of harassment and bullying of any kind, and our efforts to maintain positive learning environments for everyone in our schools.

In this way, we create:

  • Better decisions through inclusiveness. We encourage inclusiveness in our decision-making, and benefit from the diverse perspectives of our many advisory committee members;
  • Greater tolerance and respect for each other. Our employees and students represent diverse ethnicities, languages, and cultures, which we acknowledge as we celebrate what we have in common.
  • Effective and enduring education for students. The collaboration between our special education and general education staff as they help children gain the skills they will need for success in their lives beyond school.

Celebrating and respecting our diversity is essential to our charge of developing in our young students the empathy, compassion and other skills and knowledge they will need to meet the demands of their future – to ensure they are prepared for the challenges of college and career.  It is an awesome responsibility that we take very seriously.

“Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.”
(Author Jacqueline Woodson)
